MONDAY'S MARKET PLACE ON ETSY - FEATURED ARTIST

Each Monday, I'll be featuring a member from The Old Farmhouse Gathering Team on Etsy. These are some very talented artisans who create everything from Primitive to Shabby Chic, with an old fashioned flair!

This week it is truly my pleasure to introduce to you my fellow OFG sister, Shiela of SnowmanCollector
Below is a sample of her work and you can see everything on Etsy at:

http://www.etsy.com/shop/SnowmanCollector

~INTERVIEW with Shiela~

1. What is the name of your Etsy shop and why did you choose that name?

The name of my shop is SnowmanCollector and if you have a look around you will see that the reason I chose that name is obvious. I have developed a great love for all things Snowman!

2. How long have you been on Etsy?

I have been on Etsy only since April, 2009. I am fairly new but am learning more every day and loving it!

3. What type of items do you offer?

I offer mostly seasonal items ¡V stuffed snowmen, santas, ornies, etc. I also have a few wreaths and wallhangings mixed in to keep it interesting, both for those looking at my shop and for myself as a crafter.

4. How long have you been crafting?

I have been crafting for close to 20 years. I started doing quilting and things just kind of evolved. I started doing local craft shows about 10 years ago. I enjoyed it so much that I wanted to branch out a little but didn¡¦t know how or where (I live in a very rural area) and then I discovered Etsy!!!

5. Who or What inspires you?

What inspires me? Everything! There are so many ideas floating in my head, I will never do them all. Plus there are so many new things I want to learn, like rug hooking.

6. What is your favorite item in your shop and why?

I can't pick. Usually whatever I am working on at the time is my favorite item.

7. Other places where you can be found (Ebay, webstore, blog)

At the moment I am only on Etsy. But I am trying to overcome my fear of CyberSpace and hope to at least be on Facebook shortly.

PROFILE BIO

I am a lover of all things 'snowman'. I am inspired by the primitive country style and like the relaxed comfortable feel these items add to your home! If they bring a smile to someones face then I have met my goals.I find inspiration everywhere. Maybe nothing will inspire me for weeks and then all of a sudden I will see a random thing and think “Hey, I could make that into …” or “Wouldn’t that look great if I …” Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn’t.

MONDAY'S MARKET PLACE FEATURED ARTIST

Each Monday, I'll be featuring a member from The Old Farmhouse Gathering Team on Etsy. These are some very talented artisans who create everything from Primitive to Shabby Chic, with an old fashioned flair!

This week it is truly my pleasure to introduce to you my fellow OFG sister, Doreen Brannan of Privies and Prims
Below is a sample of her work and you can see everything on Etsy at:

http://www.etsy.com/shop/priviesandprims

~INTERVIEW with Doreen Brannan~

1. What is the name of your Etsy shop and why did you choose that name?

Privies & Prims has been my business name for about a year. I started out in a shed at my home on Blue Rock Rd., so I named my little shop Blue Rock Country Crafts. I had my first storefront in Burnsville, NC in 2000 and named the store Privies & Perches. I was making lots of outhouse bathroom decorations and my dad was making lots of prim birdhouses, so I changed the name. Inspired by God is all I can say. It just popped into my little brain!

2. How long have you been on Etsy?

Had to go look at my profile for this question.  Seems I started in February 2008.3.

3. What type of items do you offer?

Penny rugs, prim stitcheries, primitive & folk art dolls, punch needle embroidery & patterns, outhouse stuff, candlemats, prim wreaths, Americana prim t-shirts, wood signs, ornaments, & photographs of old barns and outhouses. I think that’s it. 4.

4. How long have you been crafting?

As long as I can remember. I used to sit at the kitchen table and trace the designs on the napkins. In high school, I made a macramé hanging large enough to cover a window! We also did pottery and leather working. My special leather project was a framed image of a Michelob beer bottle ad. We used wood carving tools and I stuffed the “bottle” from the back with sawdust to give it dimension. At the time, it was my boyfriend’s favorite brand. Personally, I can’t stand the taste of any kind of alcohol. Just give me my McDonald’s sweet tea!

5. Who or What inspires you?

First, I must give God the credit for my talents. He puts ideas into my head as I go along. I start out making a doll like the pattern photo, then God gives me ideas to make it my own. Sometimes, I think it’s a curse.  I’m always seeing stuff and thinking, “I can make that!” So, that’s why the list of things I make is so long. I just recently added punch needle embroidery to my list and I’m “hooked”. I’m designing patterns that I will sell as kits and will soon be designing prim doll patterns also that will be modeled after the mountain folk where I live. I get inspired by PatternMart.com’s monthly newsletters, looking at others creations online, visiting prim shops, looking through catalogs, and the list goes on and on. Gosh, everything I see inspires me! I look at people in restaurants and think of making a doll to look like them!

6. What is your favorite item in your shop and why?

My favorite creations are my primitive dolls cause I love giving each one their own personality. The favorite ones I’ve made are 46” dolls from a Prim & Proper folks pattern.

7. Other places where you can be found (Ebay, webstore, blog)

I don’t sell on ebay too often. Seems I just pay them money and don’t have much luck there anymore. For Privies & Prims, my main website is http://www.priviesandprims.com/,

my etsy shoppe is

http://www.priviesandprims.etsy.com/,

blog-

http://www.priviesandprimsblog.blogspot.com/

and at my brick & mortar store located at 110 West Main St., Burnsville, NC 28714.

I also do wedding photography,

http://www.affordablememoriesnc.com/

and sell photographs of old barns and houses that I find here in the mountains. http://www.thenandnowartphotos.etsy.com/.

My pattern blog is

http://www.simplyprimpatterns.blogspot.com/

and I’ll soon be teaching classes in my store, so I have a blog for that.

http://www.stitcherspunchersandhookers.blogspot.com/

And yes, I do find time to sleep. My name is Doreen Brannan and you can contact me at

PriviesAndPrims@yahoo.com

What a talented and busy gal!

MONDAY'S MARKETPLACE at OFG on ETSY - FEATURED ARTIST

Each Monday, I'll be featuring a member from The Old Farmhouse Gathering Team on Etsy. These are some very talented artisans who create everything from Primitive to Shabby Chic, with an old fashioned flair!

This week it is truly my pleasure to introduce to you my fellow OFG sister, Barb King of Prairie Harvest Arts.

Below is a sample of her work and you can see everything on Etsy at:

http://www.etsy.com/shop/prairieharvestarts

~INTERVIEW with BARB~

1. What is the name of your Etsy shop and why did you choose that name?

Prairie Harvest Arts is the name of my Etsy shop as well as my website. I am so lucky to live on a farm and the harvest time is when we see the fruit of our labor. I love seeing the leaves turn color, the scent of autumn in the air and the few quiet moments when you look at the harvested fields, the full pantry and the feeling of accomplishment, knowing that you did the best for your family. SO I live on the prairie and love the harvest and art, thus Prairie Harvest Arts.

2. How long have you been on Etsy?

I have been a member since February 1, 2008.

3. What type of items do you offer?

I enjoy offering primitive and Americana folk art, sometimes in a form to what our predecessors created and sometimes with my own interpretation of what they did, appreciated or how they lived.

4. How long have you been crafting?

I have been sewing and painting since I was a child. We were always encouraged to be creative, play outside or at least “do something.” Sitting around was not part of our way of life.

5. Who or What inspires you?

I am so lucky. Every generation has been an inspiration to the following members of the family. Great Grandma Amelia came to the US at age 11, in the 1800s, by herself, worked hard and eventually married Julius Kringle (As in Santa Claus). As homesteaders, they worked hard and she was known for her beautiful handwork. She also made the best soap, from what I was told. Her daughter, Alice was superb knitter and did crocheted items we still enjoy. My mom was and is incredible. She encouraged us to create and always to gain new skills. She considered every part of life to be a piece of art that deserved your greatest attention and effort. She’s a od mom and my best friend.

6. What is your favorite item in your shop and why?

Right now my favorite item is the Pumpkins and Bittersweet. I think it would be considered to be a fabric sculpture. There are three pumpkins with a quilted crow sitting at the top. Bittersweet (which used to grow along the roadside everywhere-but no more) is made from hand painted muslin and beads. There is a great deal of detail on every part of the sculpture.

7. Other places where you can be found (Ebay, webstore, blog)

MONDAY'S MARKETPLACE FEATURED ARTIST

Each Monday, I'll be featuring a member from The Old Farmhouse Gathering Team on Etsy. These are some very talented artisans who create everything from Primitive to Shabby Chic, with an old fashioned flair!

This week it is truly my pleasure to introduce to you my fellow OFG sister, Judy Bailey of Foxglove Folkart.

Below is a sample of her work and you can see everything on Etsy at:

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5488659

~INTERVIEW with JUDY~

1. What is the name of your Etsy shop and why did you choose that name?
I have had the name of 'Foxglove Folkart' for about 12 years or so now, ever since I began to sell my hand painted items. The reason I chose Foxglovefolkart' way back when, is because I love gardening, and Foxgloves are a flower I just love, but never had much luck with. Well, if I can't have the flower every year, I got the name ,lol!
2. How long have you been on Etsy?
Ummmmmmmm, for about a year or so.
3. What type of items do you offer?
I offer my hand painted and usually one-of-a-kind items. Everything from Shabby Chic Roses to Prim crows and Salt Box Houses. I like painting different styles, and I love painting on glass!
4. How long have you been crafting?
I've been crafting since I was a kid. I learned to sew in school, fell in love with that and ever since have made my own and others clothing. I have also at one time or another, done ceramics, macrame, embroidery, doll making, cross stitching, played with Polymer Clay (Sculpy), and I still am an avid knitter and crocheter. I also used to do A LOT of quilting, and still have a fabric stash to prove it,lol! I need something to do with my hands when watching the 'boob tube' at night with hubby. I taught myself to paint about 13 years ago, soon after a car accident. I'm an x-truck driver by profession, but after the accident, I couldn't drive my personal vehicle any distance, let alone the Highway trucks we used to own. One day, I don't know exactly where, or when, I saw some decorative painted ornaments, and I think it may have been in a magazine I seen them in, but I was intrigued. Since then, I've bought tons of pattern books, paints, packets, brushes, supplies, and my own scroll saw and sanders. I was worse for bringing home new power tools than my husband!!! ANyways, since learning to paint, it's been my main focus and a source of added income for us.
5. Who or What inspires you?
There are a few designers I just love, which include Terrye French, Ros Stalcup, Renee Mullins, Holly Hanley, Renee Mullins and more. But I've also created my own designs from time to time. As for inspiration, I suppose leafing thru my paint magazines or pattern books makes me drag out the brushes. But in general, I can't point a finger to anything definitive that inspires me, and I can't say I'v ever given it much thought, truth be told.
6. What is your favorite item in your shop and why?
I would have to say my Sap Bucket Angel is my favorite. She is my own design, and done on a 're purposed' maple syrup sap bucket. Painting on used items is a hand down fav of mine!
7. Other places where you can be found (Ebay, webstore, blog)
Just in 2 local shops. One is a make-your-own-wine shop, and I sell my hand painted wine glasses there. The other is seasonal, and called 'Cabin Savy', and located near Bala Ontario. One of the KEWELEST gift and garden shops around!!

~INTERVIEW with JUDY~

2. How long have you been on Etsy?
I joined the OFG group in the spring of 2008 but I have to confess that I haven't been very diligent in keeping my shop filled. I am trying really hard to correct that.

Most of my items are handpainted and one of a kind. I love doing snowmen and santas and will be adding those to my shop along with more trash to treasure items and gourd head dolls.
4. How long have you been crafting?
I have been crafting since the mid 80's...I know, I'm old!! :-)
5. Who or What inspires you?
I am always inspired by and in awe of God's creation. His color palette amazes me.
6. What is your favorite item in your shop and why?
The favorite thing in my shop right now is my Lily and Jingle Bear primitive doll. But, that will change when I start adding my santas and other holiday items.

1. What is the name of your Etsy shop and why did you choose that name?

Below is a sample of her work and you can see everything on Etsy at:

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5839620

~INTERVIEW~

1. What is the name of your Etsy shop and why did you choose that name? KeepSakeKorner.

As to how the name came about.....actually...nothing special. Wanted a name that reflected items you would want to keep. So I played around with some names. Now my sub-line "Creations from Stitches of Thread" came about from playing around with names that represented for the most part, my creativity in fibers.

2. How long have you been on Etsy?

I believe a year and 3 months now. Started May 2008.

3. What type of items do you offer?

Many purposeful/needful items. Most are sewing. I do alot of other art work, but haven't display much on Etsy.

4. How long have you been crafting?

Just about all my life. My grandmother that raised me taught me to sew. She was a lovely seamstress. Did alot of sewing during the depression to bring in extra money.

5. Who or What inspires you?

Words from novels, poems etc. can inspire me. Then there is God's Creation! Awesome!

6. What is your favorite item in your shop and why?

Oh I guess my Yo-Yo Flower picture that is framed. Right now they are alot of fun. I get bored easily, (perhaps I have ADD)will thus try new things and go all out for a while until the boredom bug bites. ! :)

7. Other places where you can be found.

OFG MARKETPLACE MONDAY FEATURED ARTIST

Each Monday, I'll be featuring a member from The Old Farmhouse Gathering Team on Etsy. We just added our 200th member this past weekend! These are some very talented artisans who create everything from Primitive to Shabby Chic, with an old fashioned flair! This week it is truly my pleasure to introduce to you my fellow OFG sister, Kimberly Scott of Sugar Creek Hollow
Below is a sample of her work and you can see all of it at:

http://www.sugarcreekhollow.etsy.com/

~INTERVIEW~

How long have you been selling on Etsy?
I’ve been on Etsy for about a year now, but Sugar Creek Hollow has only been open for about a month now.
What type of items do you offer?
Hand-poured Soy Candles, crocheted lace doilies, cotton dishcloths, an occasional crocheted afghan when I have the time, graphics, and I just recently added items from the kitchen such as jams and relishes.
How long have you been crafting?
Well over 25 years now
Who or What inspires you?
Probably my greatest inspiration has been my grandmother who passed on several years ago. She taught me at an early to crochet and sew, as well as how to make jams and butters. But when it comes to our candles, my youngest son is the true inspiration. He has mild Autism, and an obsession for smells. Making candles has become a family event that even he can take part in.
What is your favorite item in your shop and why?
I would have to say it’s my lace doilies. Creating these has taught me a great deal about patience. And I like to think that when one is purchased, it becomes that person’s next family heirloom.
